Echo-Scape
An interactive art program that appreciates Kim Whanki’s drawings as sound and creates music while creating audiences’ artwork.
If the dots on a painting make sounds like notes on a musical score, what music do the pieces play for us?
In 〈Echo-Scape〉, you'll hear and see Kim Whanki's artwork and create/share your pieces in a synesthetic experience. These artworks become trees and are gathered in a virtual 3D space, creating an art garden for everyone to enjoy each other's work together.
그림 위의 점들이 악보 위의 음표처럼 소리를 낸다면 작품들은 우리에게 어떤 음악을 들려줄까요?
〈Echo Scape : 수화의 정원〉에서 김환기의 작품을 시각과 더불어 청각으로 감상하고, 공감각적인 경험 안에서 나만의 작품을 만들어 공유합니다.
이렇게 만들어진 작품은 나무가 되어 가상의 3D 공간에 모이고, 서로의 작품을 함께 감상해 볼 수 있는 모두를 위한 예술의 정원이 됩니다.

〈The Garden of Soowha〉, an interactive art installation, was conceived with the idea, "If audiences can appreciate drawings with senses other than sight, what would it be like to create and appreciate them synesthetically?"
Kim often used words related to sound in the titles of his works, such as 'Sounds of Spring' and 'Echoes,' which suggests that he wanted to expand his artwork beyond the visual language and into the synaesthetic realm of sound and time. When looking at his paintings, many dots seem to be making sounds.
Echo-Scape allows users to experience Kim's work through sound. The dots on the canvas become musical notes, creating irregular but harmonious music. In the same way, as the user draws dots and lines on the canvas, the formative elements become a painting and music. In the final step of completing the artwork, the user turns the image into a tree, which can be enjoyed as music alongside the artwork of others in the Echo-Scape.

관람객 참여형 인터랙티브 아트인 수화의 정원은 “그림을 시각이 아닌 다른 감각으로 감상할 수 있다면, 공감각적으로 창작하고 감상하는 것은 어떤 경험일까?”라는 생각에서 출발했습니다.
〈봄의 소리〉, 〈메아리〉와 같이, 작가는 자신의 작품 제목에 소리와 관련된 단어를 자주 사용했습니다. 이를 통해 작가가 자신의 작품 세계를 조형 언어로 한정 짓지 않고 소리와 시간 등 공감각적 영역으로 확장하고자 했다는 것을 알 수 있습니다. 그의 그림을 보고 있자면 그림 속 수많은 점들이 소리를 내는 것처럼 보이기도 합니다.
수화의 정원은 김환기의 작품을 소리로 감상하도록 했습니다. 캔버스 위의 점은 음표가 되어 불규칙하지만 조화로운 음악을 만들어냅니다. 같은 방식으로, 사용자가 캔버스에 점과 선을 그리면 조형 요소들이 그림이자 음악으로서 작품이 됩니다. 작품을 완성하고 마지막 단계에서는 그림을 나무로 바꾸어 수화의 정원에서 다른 이들의 작품과 함께 음악으로 감상할 수 있습니다.

Step 1 : Create your Music as a Drawing
Visitors can create their drawings based on the shapes and colors of the dots and lines extracted from Kim Whanki's paintings. The dots and lines in the drawing are replaced by time in the x-coordinate and musical scales in the y-coordinate, creating both a drawing and a musical score. Every time a visitor dots or draws a line, a unique piece of music expands.김환기의 그림에서 추출한 점과 선의 모양과 색상을 토대로 관람객은 자유롭게 자신만의 드로잉을 그립니다. 이렇게 그려진 그림의 점과 선은 x 좌표는 시간, y 좌표는 음계로 치환되어 그림이자 악보가 됩니다. 관람객이 점을 찍거나 선을 그을 때마다 고유의 음악도 함께 만들어집니다.
Step 2 : Plant Your Drawing as a Tree
The finished drawing turns into a tree when the viewer selects one of the six types of trees in the Ventilation Museum's garden. The dots and lines in the previously completed drawing become the leaves of the tree the viewer chooses. The trees, colored by the colors of Kim's drawing, will be planted in the imaginary garden surrounding the Hwan Ki Museum.관람객이 환기미술관 정원에 있는 여섯 종류의 나무 중 하나를 선택하면 완성된 그림은 나무로 변합니다. 앞서 완성한 드로잉 속의 점과 선은 관람객이 선택한 나무에 달리는 잎사귀가 됩니다. 김환기 그림의 색상으로 물든 나무는 환기미술관을 둘러싸고 있는 가상의 정원에 심어집니다.
Step 3 : Plant Your Music in the Virtual Garden
When you click on a tree in the garden, you can enjoy both the painting and the music created by the visitors who planted the tree. Where day and night intersect, the trees come to us in various forms and music in the virtual garden.정원 속 나무를 클릭하면 해당 나무를 심은 관람객이 완성한 그림이자 음악을 동시에 감상할 수 있습니다. 낮과 밤이 교차하는 정원 속에서 관람객이 심은 나무들은 다양한 모습과 음악으로 우리에게 다가옵니다.
