Chang Ucchin, My Sincere Confession

Interactive art program for Chang Ucchin's retrospective exhibition



The themes that emerge in Chang's artwork are confessions of the artist and his perspectives on life. His artwork features self-portraits of himself as the sun, moon, trees, magpies, families, kids, cows, homes, dogs, and birds, among other things. Through this program, visitors to the exhibition are encouraged to think about and paint their own stories, just like the artist.


〈나의 진지한 고백〉은 국립현대미술관의 〈가장 진지한 고백: 장욱진 회고전〉의 참여형 인터랙티브 아트입니다.
장욱진 작품에는 작가 자신의 고백이자, 삶의 태도를 보여주는 소재들이 나타납니다. 해와 달, 나무, 까치, 가족, 아이, 소, 집, 개, 새 등 작품 속에 등장하는 소재는 나를 드러내는 자화상이기도 합니다.
이 프로그램을 통해 전시의 관람객 역시 작가처럼 자신의 이야기가 담긴 소재를 생각하고, 그림으로 표현할 수 있도록 기획했습니다.

Step 1. Intro

Select the figure
The main screen offers two ways to view the 11 iconic figures often appearing in Chang's paintings. Users can drag the screen to see Chang's drawing spread out on a virtual canvas and select their favorite.

메인 화면에서는 장욱진 그림에 자주 등장하는 도상 11가지를 두가지 방식으로 볼 수 있습니다. 사용자는 화면을 드래그하며 가상의 캔버스 위에 펼쳐진 장욱진의 도상을 보고, 원하는 것을 선택합니다.


Step 2. Artwork

Appreciate artwork
Users can view a series of Chang's paintings featuring the iconic figures of their choice and read an article about them.

선택한 도상이 그려진 장욱진의 그림을 감상하고 관련된 문장을 봅니다.



Step 2. Canvas

Draw like Chang Ucchin
Users can choose a canvas background and paint a picture that tells their story. We applied a custom filter to the brushes to help their drawings blend in with the canvas background.

장욱진처럼 그림 그리기
사용자가 원하는 캔버스 배경을 고른 후 그 위에 자신의 이야기가 담긴 그림을 그립니다. 브러쉬에 전용 필터를 적용해 기존 장욱진의 그림과 이질적이지 않도록 했습니다.


Step 3. Gallery

After submitting a drawing, users can appreciate their work alongside others on the gallery page. The elements of Chang's artwork - the sun, moon, birds, and family - will animate over the participants' drawings and harmonize with them. We hoped users would stroll through a virtual space where day and night intersect with Chang's family characters and appreciate each other's work.

그림을 제출하면 갤러리로 이동해 자신이 제출한 그림을 감상할 수 있습니다. 장욱진 그림의 요소인 해, 달, 새, 가족이 참여자의 그림 위로 움직이며 조화를 이룹니다. 낮과 밤이 교차하는 가상의 공간을 장욱진의 가족 캐릭터들과 함께 거닐며 서로의 작품을 감상할 수 있기를 바랐습니다.
